Johnny 5 (originally called "S-A-I-N-T Prototype Number 5") is the fictional robotic star of the movies Short Circuit and Short Circuit 2 and a TV special called Hot Cars, Cold Facts.

Because this film got mixed reviews and "disappointing" box-office returns, a third "Short Circuit" film never happened. In 2013, a remake of the original film was announced as being in development. Fisher Stevens stated his interest in returning.

He was used during the original Short Circuit production before the studio placed him in storage. The studio reused some of the original robots during the sequel, but not this one. Apart from minor restoration on his head, he remains as he was following the end of filming. He has marks and scratches but is complete.

This arm design contributed to creating the character's posture, so if they wanted him to be nervous, they would lower them. Stanton was unaware of the similarities between WALL-E and Johnny 5 from Short Circuit until others pointed it out to him.
